Add up your week in seconds

Tallying a time card by hand is error-prone. Enter each day's start time, end time and unpaid break and this calculator totals your weekly hours automatically — then, if you add an hourly rate, splits the week into regular and overtime pay.

How it's calculated

Daily hours = (end − start) − unpaid break
Weekly total = sum of all days
Pay = regular hours × rate + overtime hours × rate × 1.5

Anything over 40 hours in the week is treated as overtime at time-and-a-half. Shifts that run past midnight are handled automatically.

Tips

  • Use 24-hour or AM/PM times — your browser's time picker handles the format.
  • Leave days you didn't work blank; they simply count as zero.
  • Enter unpaid breaks in minutes so lunch isn't counted as worked time.

Overtime rules vary by country, state and employer — some use daily overtime or different thresholds. This tool uses the common 40-hour weekly rule as an estimate; check your local labour laws and employment agreement.

Frequently asked questions

How do you calculate hours worked from a time card?

For each day, subtract the start time from the end time to get the shift length, then subtract any unpaid break. Add every day together for the weekly total. This calculator does it automatically, including shifts that cross midnight.

How is overtime calculated?

In many places, hours over 40 in a week are paid at 1.5 times the regular rate. If you enter an hourly rate, this tool splits your week into regular and overtime hours and applies time-and-a-half to the overtime portion.

Does it handle overnight shifts?

Yes. If the end time is earlier than the start time, the calculator assumes the shift crossed midnight and adds the hours correctly.
